At present we do not offer Junior church. We hope that our younger congregation will gradually increase. Meanwhile we offer every child who comes to the Sunday Eucharist with their family, a small basket. These sunday baskets contain a child's guide to the communion service, relative colouring and activity sheets to the gospel and theme of the day. They also have small activities to keep children interested e.g. colouring books, jigsaws, soft toys, finger puppets, games that the children can play with either sitting with their families or in the special area by the font.
We welcome children to our services and we want them to feel included. Please share the baskets with them or read the stories as the service progresses.
The church is pushchair accessible, and there is plenty of room to park buggies beside your chair or at the back of church.
Baby changing facilitates are available in the toilet at the rear of church.
Our older children are invited to join with others from the diocese at X:site North East, a children’s event for anyone who is 7-11 years old. Events happen every two months and everyone that goes has lots of fun whilst learning more about God. It is held at St John the Evangelist, Kingston Park, Newcastle, NE3 2HB
St. James and St. Basil's church has always had good and welcoming links with Dame Allan's. Until recently Rev. Nick Darby was the chaplain to the school. We welcome the school on many occasions for Evensong, Concerts and special assemblies. We would like to extend this involvement with the school and hope that our new vicar will continue the work that Nick Darby began.
Wingrove Primary School has had good links with J’s and B’s for some years. Clergy lead assemblies regularly, and the church hosts the Wingrove Link every half term, when mixed age groups of children come to learn about the Christian faith in a fun learning environment.
