A journey in music and words from the outbreak of war in 1914, through the fighting and into the aftermath, in a series of songs, sketches, poems and stories. There are songs we all know from the trenches, and songs of remembrance, written at the time and more recently.
There’s lots of humour too – The Wipers Times and Punch supplying the ammunition.
Above all, it’s a celebration of those gallant Tommies who fought for King and country, and a commemoration of their sacrifice, in this, the 100 year anniversary of the final year of World War 1.
The concert also marks the end of the ‘Fenham Remembered’ project, and concert proceeds will help raise funds for a new World War 1 bench in the church’s Memorial Garden, to provide a sanctuary for those wishing to remember those who have given their lives.
