Directed by Paul Edis, Jambone is one of the region’s top youth jazz ensembles. Performing in high profile concerts and events with some of the great jazz artists, Jambone comprises trumpet, trombone, saxophone and flute sections locked together by guitar, bass ,drums and percussion. The musical mission of the band is anything but conventional, aiming to provide a range of fresh repertoire and performance challenges for its members.
A series of high profile guest directors undertake performance projects with the band, each taking the ensemble on a distinctive creative journey that may embrace elements of swing, funk, jazz-rock, world music, Latin or new fusions with contemporary soundscapes. As a result, the musicians have unique opportunities to expand their musicianship and their understanding of the repertoire, rehearsal and performance processes that are current in the field of jazz and contemporary music. Jambone make regular performances at festivals including the Gateshead International Jazz Festival, Manchester Jazz Festival, Durham City Jazz Festival, Skye Jazz and Swing Festival and at the Parliamentary Jazz Awards.
The tickets for this event are free and available on the door. Donations to the Sage Gateshead Young Musicians Programme would be welcome.
